Maintenance Contracts

The Mississippi Levee Board utilizes contracts with individuals to assist in the maintenance of the grass on the levee system. In most cases the Levee Board only owns an easement on its right-of-way, which results in an individual still owning the land under the levee. This reversionary land owner has the first rights to a maintenance contract. If the reversionary land owner does not want this contract, it is given to an individual whom the Board feels is best qualified to provide the required maintenance. in their best interests. Maintenance contractors sign a contract obligating them to maintain the grass on the levee through grazing or clipping. They are required to place a bond with the Board to insure performance. They are also required to provide proof of insurance and to maintain all fences in the contract area.
